Jesus asked his disciples who people said he was, and the answers were varied: John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the other prophets. But when Jesus asked his disciples what they themselves thought, it was Simon Peter who gave the answer: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Does God need strong people? It would seem that the opposite is in fact true – in 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Paul boasts of his weakness, because it is only then that the power of Christ can truly be shown in him. Real strength comes when we go beyond our own strength, when we do things for God that we know are not within our own ability. When we go past our limit, that’s when God steps in. Psalm 37:4 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” If we accept Jesus as our Lord, then He lives in us, and our desires will be progressively more in line with His. Given that Jesus refers to us as His friends, and we are the children of God, why would He not give us the desire of our hearts, when our desire is to do His will anyway?
